We live in a time when beige is one of the most popular and fashionable colours in women’s wardrobes. Especially in mass-market fashion, whether you walk into H&M or Zara, you’ll find countless pieces in different shades of beige.

However, beige is a very tricky colour. Its warmth and softness can easily make your complexion look dull or tired if you’re wearing the wrong shade. The good news is that there are several shades of beige and a few styling tricks that can save your favourite beige blouse from ending up at the back of your wardrobe.

But first, let’s look at the complexions that naturally suit beige best.

What Colour Season Looks Good in Beige?

Classic beige works best on warm-toned and soft complexions. “Soft” means that your colouring has lower contrast and lower saturation — your features blend gently together rather than appearing highly vivid or dramatic. Because of this softness, beige doesn’t overpower your appearance, and you usually don’t need strong contrasting colours to make it work.

Think of Gigi Hadid — golden-toned blonde colouring with naturally soft warmth (soft Marigold). Beige harmonises beautifully with this type of complexion and often looks effortlessly elegant on them.

So, traditional beige looks best on warm-toned, soft complexions...but what if your colours are cool-toned or saturated?

Shades of Beige For Cool Undertones

If your colours are cool-toned, it's best to avoid warm shades of beige. However if you want to find your nude, it's possible: look for the shades that are more on the pink or taupe side.

Beige For Bright, High Contrast Complexions

If your colour saturation or contrast is quite high, it’s important — regardless of whether your undertone is warm or cool — to add accessories or additional garments that support and balance your colouring.

For example, Anya Taylor-Joy is a Periwinkle in our system: light and cool-toned. However, her contrast and colour saturation are also quite high, which means she looks best when her outfits include a stronger level of visual contrast:
